TALK ON THE UNTOLD STORY OF GAZA
Melaka, 1st Feb – THIS morning the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) and the Melaka State Youth Council (MGBM) conducted a half day event; Talk on "The Untold Story of Gaza" held at the Melaka Foundation Auditorium in Melaka, Malaysia. In this event more than 650 young people participated from various youth organizations and educational institutions.
This talk commenced with the welcoming remarks from the WAY President, Hon. Datuk Wira Ir. Idris Haron, where he saw the need for awareness, to be brought to the young people, on the current conflict situation that is happening around the world. He also mentioned that young people need to realize the added value towards achieving a positive impact of the humanitarian struggle for peace, equality and solidarity around the world. He proceeded by introducing the Guest of Honor, the Chief Minister of Melaka, Rt. Hon. Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam and the Keynote Speaker, a Documentary Maker and Activist, Mr. Harry Fear.
The Guest of Honor, Rt. Hon. Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Mohd Rustam, began his address with the history of Palestine and its enduring conflicts. He went on to remind the audience of the Malaysian contribution towards the humanitarian support provided to the children, youth and women of Palestine as they are the most innocent affected victims of any war. He asserted, to the young people, to be united and smart in making sole decisions towards their own security so as to sustain peace in the country.
The keynote address made by Mr. Fear, started off at a high note by sharing his experience and journey as a journalist while living in the Gaza Strip during the 8 days of war in October 2012. His address brought light through respective audio visuals displayed to give actual scenario of the situation of people living in Gaza. Being an activist and a traveler, he shared his realization that there is amazing humanity and compassion throughout the world, with networks of Palestine solidarity. In his talk, he motivated and encouraged the young people present to work towards making a difference by taking a stand to live peacefully and spread the idea of peace far and wide.
The talk went on with the reading of the Peace Pledge written by the WAY Secretariat. Interim to the signing of the Pledge, tokens of appreciation were presented and exchanged to the speakers and organizers. The event was concluded with a photo session and all participants were hosted to lunch.
