Empowerment Now Means Peace for the Future

One month into 2012, and the optimism of a new year and a fresh start seems like a distant memory. The world is holding its breath in anticipation of war... Iran? Syria? Who will be next to receive a dose of the West's profit-driven military imperialism?
The truth is, while we speak of "hot zones" in the world, referring to distant lands and nameless victims, the costs of war are global in scope and mercilessly pervasive. None are left unaffected, from the middle-class American family facing foreclosure because their tax dollars were swallowed up by a gluttonous defense fund, to the Pakistani children unwittingly contributing to statistics on civilian casualties due to drone attacks.
Throwing fuel on the propaganda pyre is a corporate media apparatus which serves the interests of those at the top of the political spectrum, the ones who sacrifice the good of humanity for the temptation of profit. But in an ironic twist, both the global elite and their media minions are flailing. As Finian Cunningham incisively elucidates:
"The propaganda fog over Iran in particular is becoming so thick it is almost laughable – because the political leaders who are spouting this fog don’t even seem to realize just how much they are tripping up over their own absurd statements. And thanks, in a way, to the pathetically servile mainstream media, the lies and deceptions of these political figures are being exposed for all their worthlessness and criminality." ("Uncritical Mainstream Media Drivel", Global Research, February 1, 2012)
Exhausted from false promises over Iraq and Afghanistan, weary after the spectacular bloodlust in Libya and unwillingly to get dragged into another disastrous conflict, the world is turning to alternative media like Global Research for real information, to increase awareness and thereby be empowered to prevent military escalation.
Global Research is independent in the true sense of the word. We don't get funded by war-makers and banksters, therefore our news is free of corporate agendas. This is only possible thanks to our readers who show their commitment to the truth by sending in donations, creating memberships and purchasing books from our online store in order to get in-depth information on today's pressing issues.
