Raipur: In a brutal act, a 38-year-old man, on Monday, killed his wife and five daughters in Chhattisgarh after doubting the character of his spouse, police said.

The incident took place in the small village of Mohadipat in Balod district, some 150 km from Raipur.

"Dhalsingh Devangan lost his cool when he saw his wife Thaneshwari, 32, talking to a middle-aged person in a friendly manner at his house. He took a sharp-edged weapon used for killing chicken, and attacked his wife who succumbed to injuries on the spot," K.M Mishra, in-charge of the local Arjunda police station, told IANS over phone.

"The accused who was perhaps in a drunken state, didn't stop after killing his wife, killing his five daughters - Nisha, 15, Laxmi, 14, Sati, 13, Nandini, 8 and Sandhya, 5 in the same manner when they cried after watching their mother in a pool of blood," the police officer added.

Mishra said that the lone eyewitness of the murders was none other than the accused's mother, Kejabai, 55, who is still in a state of shock and has urged the police to hang her son to death for killing her daughter-in-law and her five granddaughters.

The police officer said that Devangan has confessed to his crime.

The heinous crime has sent shockwaves through the 21 families in the village, Mishra added.
