DURGAPUR, 30 DEC: Mrs Jahanara Khan, MLA of Jamuria, was accused of beating up a student of a private school she runs, today. Mrs Khan of the CPI-M, is the owner and the principal of the Bal Vikash School for primary students. Four-and-a-half-year-old Khushi Jajodia, the student, returned home with blood oozing out of her head and was feeling nauseous. She complained that the principal had beaten her severely for not being attentive in class. Daughter of a wage labourer, Mr Mahesh Jajodia, Khushi lives at Kenda under the Jamuria police station area. She was immediately taken to Bahadurpur Health Centre which referred her to Asansol SD Hospital.
Later the family lodged an FIR against the MLA. The family members, along with local people, blocked a road for two hours, demanding immediate arrest of the MLA.
The MLA runs the school in an accommodation provided by coal major Eastern Coalfields Limited.
Mrs Khan denied the charge. "The student was beaten up by another teacher. I was not present as I went to Durgapur to attend our party’s district conference,” she said. sns
