Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police today arrested four people, including the wife of the prime suspect in the hooch tragedy earlier this month that left at least 171 dead in South 24 Parganas district.
Among those arrested are Nurjahan Bibi - the wife of prime suspect Noor Islam Sheikh alias Khora Badshah. They were picked up from a house in Canning town of South 24 Parganas district, Deputy Inspector General (Operations), CID, K. Jayraman told IANS.
The others nabbed include Bakkar alias Bakreswar and another accomplice, Ghulam Rasool alias Chotu.
The owner of the house, Sambhu Patra has also been arrested, he said.
At least 171 people - mostly masons, labourers and hawkers - perished after consuming spurious liquor at shanties near Sangrampur railway station of South 24 Parganas district on December 13 and 14.
