Martyred Day Today

The Bengali throughout the world is observing the Martyred Intellectuals' Day today by paying glowing tributes to the illustrious sons of the soil who made supreme sacrifice at the fag end of the Liberation War in 1971.

Just two days before the victory of the liberation war of Bangladesh, sensing the immanent defeat,
Pakistani occupation army and its partner Al-Bard committed the most heinous, cruel and sinister crime in the history of mankind. This was a well calculated and cold-blooded assassinations aimed at crippling the backbone of the nation, which surpassed all horrible histories of mankind even the atrocities of Hitler's forces during the WWII. The Pakistani army with total support from its collaborators systematically rounded up the country's top intellectuals and
killed them in cold blood.

The martyred intellectuals include Prof Muneir Chowdhury, Dr Alim Chowdhury, Prof Muniruzzaman, Dr Fazle Rabbi, Sirajuddin Hossain, Shahidullah Kaiser, Prof GC Dev, JC Guha Thakurta, Prof Santosh Bhattacharya, Mofazzal Haider Chowdhury, journalists Khandaker Abu Taleb, Nizamuddin Ahmed, SA Mannan (Ladu Bhai), ANM
Golam Mustafa, Syed Nazmul Haq and Selina Parvin to name a few. our tributes to these souls!!

Forty years have passed and the families of the martyred intellectuals still waiting to see punishment to the perpetrators. National Professor Kabir Chowdhury, younger brother of martyred Prof. Munir Chowdhury, passed away yesterday (inna…Rajeyyn) without seeing the verdict of the long demanded justice against those criminals.
