[Bismillahnews.in-13-12-11-New Delhi-Tehran-Fars News/Reuters] Amidst rising war cries over Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons programme, a member of the National Securiity and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian Majlis, Parwez Sorouri,  told the Iranian Students News Agency tody that Iran shall consider holding military manovures to test  the possibility of blocking the Straits of Hormuz to world shipping.  “If the world wants to make the Mid-East region insecure  we will also make the world insecure”, he said. A spokesman of the Iranian military refused to comment on this news.

Oil tankers loading Persian Gulf oil pass through these straits. In 2009 an estimated one -third quantity of world’s oil supply passed through them.

Because under international law these straits are international waterways open to shipping of all countries and the US is committed to guarantee freedom of passage through them Iran  will never attempt to block them unless its national survival is threatened.
